Wow, it’s hard to believe it’s been almost 2&1/2 years since I’ve sat to write anything on this blog.  It’s really been almost that long since I’ve done any meaningful hobby or gaming activities outside of some computer stuff.

A surprise phone call lead to adopting an already 2+ year old son in combination with a significant change in how we were scheduled at work lead to a grinding “no life” type work/life balance.  Those two things plus keeping up with my other 2 ever more active children means that hobbytime didn’t even make the back-burner for a long, long stretch.

A few months back I took a different position at work that so far has led to actually feeling like I have a life outside the confines of employment.  So finally I find myself having time to have a hobby again.  The next challenge is remembering which end of the brush to use.

Dusting off the workbench!

Posted: November 15, 2014 in Uncategorized

As the title says, I’m dusting off my workbench. It’s been nearly 2 years since I’ve managed a post and pretty much the same span since I’ve picked up a brush. Sometimes life just gets busy to the point the hobbies suffer. A change of schedules at work and a little phone call pretty well has kept mine blown up for the last couple of years at any rate.

Life has been good, but just plain hectic. Things finally seem to be settling into mild pandemonium instead of absolute chaos, so hobby time is making a comeback.

This is my take on the Twenty Questions that Ray and Fran ran over on their blogs:  http://onelover-ray.blogspot.co.uk/ and http://theangrylurker.blogspot.co.uk/
1.        Favourite Wargaming period and why?
Napoleonic Era both land and naval.  Land for the intriguing combination of infantry, horse, and artillery plus the  pageantry of the uniforms look great on the table.  Naval because I’ve always been fascinated by the tall ships and great guns.

                         SYW, big battions, Minden figs

                         Fantasy Rules! 2nd Edition
                         Classical Hack
                          SeeKrieg V
8.       Favourite Sport and team?
                        Pittsburgh Steelers

10.   Last meal on Death Row?
Something with many, many, many courses
11.    Fantasy relationship and why?
My wife lets me have my hobby without issue, so I think I’ve got the fantasy!
12.   If your life were a movie, who would play you?
John McGinley, simply because I’ve been told that I look a bit like him.
13.   Favourite Comic  Superhero?
                        Captain America
14.   Favourite Military quote?
” It is well that war is so terrible, otherwise we should grow too fond of it.”  Robert E. Lee
15.   Historical destination to visit?

                          Blackbird–Third Day
                         Moon over Bourbon Street –Sting
19.   Favourite Wargaming Moment?
Too many to pick out one.  Good friends, good times, and good games  it’s what moves this hobby just being scale   modeling.
20.   The miserable Git question, what upsets you?
Folks who go out of their way to make some else’s experience miserable, both in life and gaming.

Merry Christmas One and All!

Posted: December 25, 2011 in Uncategorized

I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas!  I had the blessings of enjoying it with my family.  The energy and excitement of a 5 and 2 year old made for a fun and very special day.  Now it is time to settle down for a long winter’s nap.

2011 Making Plans

Posted: January 8, 2011 in Uncategorized

A few months ago, I blogged on a half-dozen projects and when I hoped to have then done.  Well as the New Year begins to unfold, I still have those projects on the back of the painting table.  That being the case, here is a brief plan for my hobby efforts for 2011.

1) Blog more, with more pictures.  I’m going to shoot for at least twice monthly articles with pictures in addition to doing month end wrap-ups.

2) Finish the workshop.  Formica on the benchtop, shelves, and a sink should complete the major phase of fitting out.

3) Get to at least one convention.  With an adoption in the works in 2010 convention trekking just wasn’t in the mix, with everyone settled into a routine, I’m going to try to get out and get a convention in this year.

4) Finish at least 3 of the lurking projects.  Eureka Teddybear pirates are up first, On deck is a human Bloodbowl team, and on the steps of the dugout is another 18mm AB British brigade for Age of Eagles.

5) Actually sit down and paint at least once a week.  I’m going to try to plan this into my schedule to keep moving ahead.

6) Organize and briefly catalogue the ready locker.  Now that I have a workshop, I need to get a handle on what lurks in cardboard boxes in the basement.  I’m sure there are projects and mini’s that I’ve long forgot.  I need to figure out what I have, what I want to keep, and move the rest out.

Hope you had a Merry Christmas!

It’s been a fun, exciting and fast moving Holiday Season here at the Occasional Wargamer’s.   Outside of Christmas the highlight of our season was the finalization of our daughter’s adoption in mid-December!  She in one tap of the judge’s gavel became fully ours by law (she of course already had our hearts) and a citizen of the United States of America!

Our Christmas Day was outstanding with Christmas with a 4 year-old and our first Christmas with our daughter.  Toys for the kiddos, a Wii for the family, Wii Fit for the Mrs., and a couple of good books for myself.  Kids and adults are healthy.  A most satisfying Christmas.

The Lord we celebrate at Christmas had blessed our family, and I truly hope he has blessed yours as well!

Cheers,

Mark

This is my wargaming blog.  As with most people hobbies are a time available endeavor, my available time seems to be occasional.  Hopefully this blog will be more regular than occasional.
